Depending on your age and your familiarity with the Christian cultural world, you might have heard of John Ortberg before. He is one of those rare Christian authors who write books that are both good and popular. He's written books like "If You Want to Walk on Water You've Got to Get Out of the Boat" (a mouthful of a title) and "The Life You've Always Wanted".
In my mind there's honestly not many people like him. He combines three really great things: (1) deep wisdom and knowledge, (2) an enjoyable and easily-understandable communication style, and (3) a pastoral and compassionate heart. Often Christian thinkers have one or two of those qualities but not all three. People like John Mark Comer, Tim Keller, and Jon Tyson are on the short list of names of current/recent people that similarly combine those qualities.
The podcast Become New from John Ortberg has become one of my most regularly listened-to podcasts. The episodes are short (typically 10-20 min) but frequent (he releases multiple per week). Typically they are in series, like on the topic of spiritual practices or walking through the book of Genesis. But regardless of the topic he comes at it from an interesting and often unique angle that gets me thinking and reflecting. They are grounded in good biblical wisdom but still have a practical application. He often brings in insights from psychology or some other field of knowledge. The podcast episodes are sort of like audio devotionals.
I encourage you to check them out!
(PS - every podcast episode is also a video on the Become New Youtube channel! So check out the videos if that's your preference.)
