Confession time: I'm not a huge fan of "mainstream" Christian music. In other words, I don't enjoy most of what would be played on Christian radio stations. (If you weren't aware there are Christian radio stations - there are!) Everyone's musical tastes are different, but personally I just find most of it too formulaic, both musically and lyrically. I look for bands that are a bit more "alternative".

That's why I enjoy a band called Kings Kaleidoscope. I think they're one of the best bands currently making Jesus-y music. Musically their songs are both unique and catchy. Lyrically they are deep and are honest about the difficulties and complexities of life, which I really appreciate. They're songs are enjoyable individually, but also their albums tend to take you on a journey. For example, their latest album, Zeal, takes you on the journey of someone struggling with doubts and dryness in their faith but who ends up finding spiritual renewal.

If you're looking for Christian music that is crystal-clear and get's straight to the point with the message of each song, they may not be for you. Their lyrics tend to be subtle. Sometimes you have to reflect on what they're saying to get the meaning behind it.

If you want to check them out, my personal favorite album of theirs is called The Beauty Between, but really you can't go wrong with them!
