Sarah Clarkson has written a great book about how a follower of Jesus can deal with suffering. Her book is not a theoretical or philosophical account of why God would allow suffering. It is much more practical: she lays out how God has been present and helped her through her own suffering.
Clarkson has a form of OCD that is different than any I have heard of before. She writes in her book that she is plagued horrifying and graphic thoughts that intrude in her mind and she has little control over. She is writing as someone who has experienced struggle and been in a dark place.
Her book is subtle and gentle. It won't revolutionize your life and make your problems disappear. But it is hopeful. I came away from the book encouraged and inspired to find beauty (i.e. joy, wonder, contentment, etc.) in the world. This book will especially appeal to those who connect with the artistic and creative side of life: she frequently points to the beauty that can be found in stories, books, music, poetry, and movies.
